Back to school can be so exciting for kids. They get to see friends they have missed all summer. They get all those new school supplies and who doesn’t love school supplies.
I was always drawn to new pens and paper. Who remembers trapper keepers? Those were the best. Like your own office that you could carry with you.
For some kids, however, it is a time of high anxiety. There are lots of unknowns in a new school year. I used to teach middle school and I always remember the kids coming in so unsure of that next stage in life.
How were they ever going to get those locker combinations done and get to class on time?
Who were their friends going to be and were they going to be in any classes together?
So many uncertainties. This is an awesome opportunity to arm your kids with God’s Word. We know that God is constant and in Him, they can find great refuge.
They are about to go into some uncharted territory and it would be great if they knew God was on their side.
Hopefully, we have done our part as parents but navigation those outside influences can be so overwhelming. This is a great way to have those conversations about turning to God when mom and dad are not around.
Today we are going to look at 10 issues (I know there are more) that our kids are facing and arm them with 10 verses to help them stand strong in God’s Word. This year they will go back to school like a champ!
You are Never Alone
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NLT)
Give Away Your Worries
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)
Conquer Fears
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
Flee from Temptation – Fight the Good Fight
But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:11 (NIV)
Overcome Peer Pressure
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? Romans 8:35 (NLT)
Do Not Be Discouraged
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NLT)
Resist Insecurity
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:28 (NIV)
Do Not Be Troubled
“I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27 (NIV)
Choose True Friends
A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. Proverbs 17:17 (NLT)

This is great! We so want to prepare our children for every eventuality – and by giving them Scripture, we are preparing them for all of life (and helping our own hearts in the process).
Jaime Wiebel says
You are so right, Michele. Sometimes the preparation relieves such a big part of anxiety. My oldest doesn't like new things at all. So preparing him has always helped alleviate some of those stresses. Thanks for joining us!
Valerie says
Great encouragement! I was VERY nervous as a kid every time a new year started. I remember being overly anxious that I wouldn't find my classes in high school and be late. Now my daughter is in high school and I'm SO glad she doesn't have the issues that I did. I used to tuck a Bible verse in my pocket from the daily bread verse loaf and pull it out to read it when I felt anxious at school. God's word always spoke right to my heart.
Jaime Wiebel says
I am working on a printable page to add to this post. One that parents can print off and cut out the verses to be folded up and put into pockets or backpacks. I hope it is helpful. God can always speak to our hearts when we are willing to listen. Kids listen and trust God so it is such a good time to pour His word into them. Thanks for joining us, Valerie.
Susan Shipe says
It was always about the school supplies – always!
Jaime Wiebel says
I still shop for the supplies – for myself. Now that I am a thrifty mom, I can't wait for the After Back-to-School Sales. When everything is on clearance. I love to snatch up those pens and papers. Thanks for joining us every week, Susan!
Beth says
I love the resources you're providing for moms and their kids, Jaime. School can be such a hotbed of anxieties and overwhelming fears. These verses will certainly bring peace to the storms within. Thanks for the linkup and I'd love to have you join me at mine. I'm back from my long summer blogging break!
Jaime Wiebel says
Thanks, Beth. I am working on for next week another post for parents and kids. God's Word is always the best way to make our kids the best they can be. Glad to hear you are back. I will be making my rounds again for hopping around the different linkups after school gets back in session. Thanks for joining us and for the encouragement, dear friend!
Elizabeth Livingston says
Thanks Jaime for this very encouraging post and the Bible verses for kids to be strong and courageous in God. Blessings to you!
Jaime Wiebel says
Thanks, Elizabeth. Kids really can take on God's strength and courage like no other. What a better way than to prep them. I am glad you are visiting today, friend!
Julie Loos says
Jaime- what a great post! Anxiety is high for everyone this time of year. Routine changes and stress are real 😉
I used to love using the pens with the top you could push down a different color, so it was like 4 pens in 1.
Jaime Wiebel says
They are and this back to school is such a big change for this stay-at-home mamma, too! The stress is real but God. He can help us endure and He can help those kiddos of ours. We just have to pour in in so they can drink it up! Love having you, friend!
June Caedmon says
Great post, Jaime! and it sounds like you're a little more at peace about heading into the school year 🙂 Have a blessed week!
Jaime Wiebel says
God can do wonders on a mother's heart. I am trying to look forward to what He has in store for me. Thank you so much for noticing, June. You have a blessed week and thanks for joining us, friend!
Char says
So great to equip our students with verses. I'd never want to be in school in this day and age. I used to try to convince my children that school was not like the real world….. These verses are truth.
Jaime Wiebel says
Kids are feed so many things. I might as well feed them something that will be good for there hearts and minds and equip them for the real world. God's Word is truth and I hope people will be able to use this list to instill that truth. Thanks so much for the mothering perspective, Char.
Amber | All Natural Joy says
Thank you so much for the great verses for starting back to school! (How did summer go by so fast??) It's a great reminder to saturate our kids with God's Word! I appreciate it! Thank you!
Jaime Wiebel says
I do not know how the summer went by so fast. I was just sitting outside today and thought we were going to do that in the late spring and now here it is summer almost over. Thanks for your encouraging words here and for joining us. I hope to see you back, Amber!

I tried to feed my kids with love and understanding when they were growing up. Thanks for verses because as an educator I need them.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend and thanks for hosting.
Jaime Wiebel says
I know that it is hard as a public educator to include your beliefs but like you said it is great to have good verses on hand because you never know when you can use them. Thanks for joining us here, Patrick!
Patricia Krank says
I used to hate going back to school when I was a kid because I was extremely shy and fearful. God's word is the very thing to give our children to conquer their own fears. Thank you Jaime.
Jaime Wiebel says
I tried to ask my husband for help with this post but he was not a fan of school either. But God… is just the thing those kiddos need when they are fearful or anxious because He can go with them where ever they go and I have found that kids are very faithful. Thanks for joining us, Patricia and thanks for sharing here!

Love the scriptures and the work you put into this excellent blog about Jesus Christ.
I wanted to let you know that I have moved Joy in The Morning to Faith Matters- The Woman's Post. This was recommended to me by someone and I decided to do it. Since The Woman's Post is about Women's Inspiration, Personal Growth, Life Coaching, Self Help and already had Faith Matter, I thought it fit. It also saves me some time. Just an FYI. Thank you Jamie.
Jaime Wiebel says
Thanks for the encouragement and keeping us updated. I hope your site works out better for time and posting purposes. Either way it sounds like such great inspiration. I hope all else is going well and I am glad that you stopped by. Have a great week!
