And You Will Be Saved and Sitting Among Friends #51

November 16, 2016 by Jaime Wiebel 12 Comments

One of my favorite things to do is to discuss scripture with people so I am glad that you have joined me today to talk about a part of scripture that cannot be overlooked.
So often we want to point out the qualities of God that fit into a neat box or help us to connect to Him or help us to feel like we understand Him.
Maybe we need forgiveness so we like to stress that God is a God of mercy or a God of Grace. Maybe we are lacking compassion in our lives so we say God is a God of Love. While God is all those things, He is much more.
I was telling a confidant the other day (my grandma), the more I learn about God, the less I feel like I know about God. The more knowledge I gain, the smaller I get and the bigger He becomes.
In our pursuit to make God what we need Him to be we often overlook our need for dependence and a genuine relationship. We make God someone we can wrap our minds around.
Paul speaks in Philippians about God transcending our understanding. Job gives us a picture of how great and marvelous our God is and reminds us that He is beyond our understanding.
The reality of God is He is the One in whom we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). He is the Author of our Life and to play Him as anything smaller would be a huge understatement and we would miss His all encompassing attributes.
Something that always transcends my understanding is why a God so great and marvelous would choose a wretched people like us to love, to die for, to forgive, and to call His own.
The greatest love story, in my opinion, is that of a Father choosing His Only Son to be a sacrifice for all of humanity. A story that transcends my understanding.
I don’t know about you personally, okay, I do, but we’ll get to that in a minute. But as for me, I don’t deserve the redemption. I don’t deserve the mercy or the grace. I didn’t deserve for God to leave His throne and humble Himself to rescue me.
As for you, you fall in the same arena as I do. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”
Now that we are all on the same page. We can see our need for a Savior is more than just a morning cup of coffee.

Because of our sin, our relationship with God is broken. God provided a way for it to be restored on the cross. Our life rests in His hands and here is the great news.

News that can be beyond our understanding but doesn’t have to be beyond our reality. God came to rescue us, not because we deserve it, but because of who He is. He is Love. He wants us to be restored to a perfect relationship with Him.
The same God who created the stars and calls each of them by name set a plan in motion that would not only make us right with Him now but for all of eternity.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith— and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift of God.

I hope you caught that. It is not of yourselves. It is not based on whether we deserve grace because we don’t. That is why it is called grace. That is why it is a gift.

I am relieved by that news, how about you? The creator of heaven and earth offered us a free gift. One we don’t deserve but one He wants to give us.

What is it and How do I get it?
Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

My grandma once told me that her mom used to always say, “The way you people talk anyone can be saved.”
I don’t want you to miss this. The answer is Yes! Yes, you can!
Christ came to earth. In the flesh, humbled Himself as a servant and died for each one of us. Three days later, He was raised from the dead and now sits at the right hand of God as king and authority over all.
Read Romans 10:9 again.

The choice is yours. Do you choose to believe that today? Do want to call Him Lord of your life?

Believe in what He did on the cross and that He was raised from the dead. Seek His Forgiveness. Believe in your heart that need you Him because He is the Only Way. Confess this to Him. And You will be saved. Isn’t that Awesome!

If you have made a decision like this. Don’t keep it to yourself. Tell someone that can help you. Don’t know who to turn to? Send me an email and let me know and I will help you with the next steps.

Love this, Jaime. I tend to say I believe this and then find myself not forgiving myself easily, grasping for a Grace that has already been given to me. Blessings to you!

Meg, I have been in your shoes many times and it all comes down to not only believing the Gospel story to be true but believing and trusting it to be true for you. It not only works but it works for you. God had to work me over before I understood and took a hold of that truth and that is what made my walk in faith take a whole new turn.

Salvation is a gift – too often we forget that and so we don't truly appreciate the sacrifice that was made so that we could get access to it.

This is such an important topic, Jaime and one that many misunderstand. So I'm grateful that you're unpacking the essentials of the gospel. Thanks for being such a great spiritual mentor and disciple-maker, my friend! I also appreciate your linkups! Great to be here.
