All of a sudden, I was overwhelmed with uncertainty and worry. The tears began to flow. I have been down this road before with my little guy.
Some of you may have experienced something similar. You go to the doctor for a routine or not so routine visit and they look you over and their conclusion, “I don’t know.”
I don’t know how many times I have heard this from doctors. These are top-notch doctors in their field of medicine. This is not about their lack of qualifications.
This is about a God who is not concerned with how much we know or think we know, he finds ways to remind us that He’s got this one. He knows.
I know that doctors don’t know everything but that is one diagnosis I don’t like to hear. I want to cry out, “tell me something, anything at all but not, “I don’t know.”
Diagnosis – I don’t know.
When my son was 7 weeks old, we opened a diaper to discover blood. Diagnosis, “I, don’t know.”
When he was 3 and 5 months old he had a systemic reaction to vaccinations (this is not a post about vaccinations). Diagnosis, “I, don’t know. In fact, we have never seen this before and can’t find any other cases.”
When he was 3 and 4 years old we questioned his balance and excessive falling. Diagnosis, “I don’t know.”
So here we are on another trip with Dr. “I don’t know.”
I think I am okay as long as I can get an answer. My drive alone with a small child depending on me is leaving me completely overwhelmed.
As I begin to quickly lay this at the feet of Jesus and cover this in tear-filled prayers, He gently reminds me, “I know.”
He knows. I don’t know and the doctors may not know but He knows.
I felt an overwhelming rush of peace and calmness flush through my aching heart. These words play over and over in my head like a sweet melody, He knows. He knows!
We can choose to be consumed by trying times. We can be overtaken with worry, regret, doubt and fear.
Or
We can take comfort and relinquish this to the All-Knowing God who has already seen this all play out. In fact, He has set a path for us and marked a way for us to see it through.
With my son, this time, turned out to be okay and most of our “I don’t know” diagnoses have been revealed. God is awesome and always has a way of us relying on Him alone.
I hope these verses throughout were an encouragement and they speak to your heart in times like these when you, too, are in a place of uncertainty. Left with the question or the feeling of who knows.
Be assured, my friends,
God knows!

Is Love Just a Trend? and Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #11
Cheryl says
Oh, Jaime! I am SO sorry you are going through this! Bless your heart. I do trust Jesus that GOOD answers will come to you, and all will be well with your little one. Surely He knows all you are going through, and "what if?" questions never come from Him. He already knows. May He hold you extra close during these times of uncertainty and give you strength to place all your trust in Him. "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deuteronomy 33:27 I am praying for you and your little one.
Jaime Wiebel says
Thank you so much, Sweet Cheryl. I appreciate your prayers. On the other side of this we can always see how God uses our trials to draw us closer to Him. How reassuring it is to know it is not to push us away but to build dependence. I love that reminder that "what if" questions never come from Him. Thanks for stopping by.
Michelle says
He knows! Even before we do! I do hope it is nothing serious. Being a mom of a special needs child, the "I don't knows" always rang in my ears too. It is hard, it is scary, but as you have, I always felt God carrying me through those doctor's doors and beyond whatever may have come from them. Stay strong friend.
Jaime Wiebel says
That gives me such peace in difficult times. Turns out to be nothing. But surrendering it all to the one who knows is what God truly wants from us. I love that imagery of God carry us through the door's of those uncertain places.
Debbie Jackson says
Thank you for hosting! I am so sorry to read all these issues you are dealing with for your son. Pray you find the answers and encouragement as you try to get help for him.
Jaime Wiebel says
Most have been resolved in some way. Some have just had to be adjustments. But through it all, we have a comforter. Thank you for stopping, Debbie.
Renee says
This is so encouraging to read today! Thank you for hosting this party. I enjoy linking up here!
Jaime Wiebel says
I am so glad to hear that Renee. This has become such a great community where I can draw from others to and get a lot of encouragement from. I am glad you are here.
Flourishing Today says
Jaime, that is a tough one!! It's one thing to go through personal struggles, but to struggle beside our children is excruciating. I've had some tough moments with one of my teenagers. We still don't know completely why he's had some of the struggles he's had, but God knows. He knows every moment, every tear shed and every answer to the thousands of why's we've asked. We trust in Him. Love this post! Praying for you my friend.
Jaime Wiebel says
To not know what is going on in the body of someone else it difficult. That is why doctors have such a difficult job. With littles, they don't always know either or know how to explain it, makes it a double difficulty. God knows and knows how to comfort us in those times. I will be praying for you.
Jed Jurchenko says
Jamie, you and your family our in our thoughts and prayers this morning. Our family is in one of those "I don't know" stages too. The situation is different, but scary still. Thank you for sharing how you are trusting God in this "I don't know" phase. We are trying to patiently and persistently do the same. I'm finding that the faith of others, brings me hope. Thank you for the reminder that He indeed, does know.
Jaime Wiebel says
Jed, you are so right, the situation does not have to be the same. We are all going through or have gone through those times where uncertainty seems to be looming. That is where we have to come to that point and choose where we seek comfort from. I am really glad that you have been a part of this community and I will be praying for your family.
Patrick weseman says
Praying for you are your son. The struggles with kids medical stuff is hard. I went through it with my son. Good answer will come.
Jaime Wiebel says
Patrick, thank you for engaging in this community and sharing your heart here. It is always great to hear from people that have been through these things and can see the other side of it. Thanks for stopping by and linking your great photos with us weekly.
Jen Stults says
Hi, Jaime, I really appreciate your words here today. We have a son who has presented us with lots of "I don't know"s in his lifetime. Currently we are trying to figure out some of his learning difficulties. It's been tough. But I appreciate the thought that God already knows, and He already has plans for our boy. 🙂
Stopping by from Wedded Wednesday,
Jen @ Being Confident of This
Jaime Wiebel says
Thank you Jen, I am glad to be making this new connection with you. Figuring out just what those learning difficulties are can be quite a challenge. I taught special education for several years and I have seen many struggles of parents. My heart goes out to you. Keep up the good work mama. You will be his best advocate.
Raising Samuels says
Praying for your little guy, Jaime! A few years ago, my doctors were convinced I had contracted some kind of illness or parasite because of how sick I was, and they couldn't identify it. About 10 weeks and 3 pregnancy tests later, they discovered I was indeed pregnant and not ill. God does know all the time and it's beautiful to hear your faith and encouragement. Prayers to you and your family, my friend. Thanks for hosting and hope you have a wonderful week.
Jaime Wiebel says
Oh Kelly, what stress that can be but what a blessing we can receive in the end when our reliance on God proves to be our best bet. I am so glad you stop by here every week. I look forward to seeing you.
Raising Samuels says
Thanks, Jaime! It is such a joy to be able to stop here each week! Thanks for sharing with #SocialButterflySunday, my friend! Hope you are having an amazing week 🙂
Mary Dolan Flaherty says
Oh, I hope everything turned out okay. It can be scary when we feel helpless as parents…and when you get that, "I don't know." diagnosis. Trusting that the God Who Knows will make the diagnosis known to the doctors so that your son–and his parents–can get some help, and peace of mind!
Jaime Wiebel says
I had this pediatrician we used to go to for awhile and he was wonderful with the parents because he felt half the battle was calming the parents down. I really enjoyed going to him. He would happily answer all kinds of questions.
Teresa says
Hello, I'm a nana now and I raised 5 children. When it comes to our children and grandchildren we have to Let Go and Let God take care of things but I know how hard it is. I will say a prayer for you and your son and hope to stop back by and read that all is well. Teresa from NanaHood.com
Jaime Wiebel says
I love having this conversation with someone that has walked this path before. they really know what it means to Let GO. TO absorb that in the moment is the key! Thank you for sharing your encouragement here, Teresa.
Gleniece Lytle says
It can be so hard NOT KNOWING the how and the why of something. But God is faithful. He knows. I appreciated the verses you chose. Especially "But whoever loves God is known by God". To be known by God.. so soothing this is.
Love to you, Jaime
Jaime Wiebel says
God is faithful! God is Good! With all that has been going on in my life the past couple weeks. I just keep saying out loud God is Faithful and good because no matter what we are facing He stays constant and we need those reminders.
Lisa Ehrman says
This type of worry is terrifying to me. I've had too many "I don't know experiences with doctors" that last for decades and lead to severe illnesses. I'm so glad that this latest trip to the doctor wasn't a serious problem. It's so wonderful that God knows all our needs! Thank you for sharing your post at Together on Tuesdays 🙂
Jaime Wiebel says
God knows and provides. If it is not us it is the doctors with something. For the times we are left with an I don't know He offers us peace that is beyond out comprehension. I love Him for that.
Pam Ecrement says
Well said, Jaime! These times of "not knowing" and "uncertainty" are so difficult to walk out even when we know Jesus is there with us. We want the situation or problem identified or fixed right now if at all possible rather than being left with the lingering question over our heads. This was a very real and practical post that hits every one of us in one way or another. Blessings on your day!
Jaime Wiebel says
You are so correct, Pam. It doesn't have to be a diagnosis. It can be anything that is looming overhead. Decisions that we have to make and we are left with that place in our path where we are divided. That is the time we take the path He has already laid out for us. He knows what it is and He knows the results of our choice. He promises to never leave us, that is my comfort and my joy.
Mary Hill says
He has a plan for me and He knows my path and future. I will try to hold on to truths and let the joy of my Lord by my strength. Thanks for sharing this word. I really needed it
Jaime Wiebel says
Oh Dear Mary I am so glad that you stopped by today. The Lord even knows where to lead us at the moment of needing a word of encouragement from His heart and Word. Thank you so much for stopping by this week.
Bethany says
Coming by from the Coffee For Your Heart linkup. Thanks for sharing this story and these truths. I especially love the 1 Cor 8:3 verse – it was a great reminder!
Jaime Wiebel says
What an awesome God for us to be known by Him. He had us in His plans and knows the path of our way. Known in an intimate way that allows us to rest in His comfort, love, joy, and peace. Thank you so much for stopping by today!
sue donaldson says
it's so much harder for me to trust God with my girls than with my own life – silly me. So sorry for your scare and glad things are okay. I'm married to a Dr. and no, they don't always know! Grateful that God so knows everything and for your great verses – pinned! love, sue
Jaime Wiebel says
I seem to feel that same way. When it comes to my kids, I often times think, "I got this one." But how off I am in that thinking. We actually go to top doctors at a top notch hospital. His doctors have almost always been amazing. I have appreciated all that they have done for our family. Still, medicine can only do so much. Fortunately, we have the Great Healer on our side.
Lori Schumaker says
Oh, Jaime, I have been there many times. Those trips to the doctors with the unknown. They are tough … really really tough. I love the peace you have grabbed onto, reminding yourself that it is there! I know that through it all, God has strengthened me to handle the limbo of life much better. And I have found that in the midst of "limbo" we need Him desperately.
Much love,
Lori
Jaime Wiebel says
Lori,
I hear you. Peace only can come from within from our Lord. All others searches leave us doing just that, searching. You are so right. Through it all God strengthens us, if we chose to lean into Him. Thank you for sharing your heart always.
Hazel Moon says
Dear Sweet Jaime, Have you considered taking your son to a chiropractor who specializes with children? I understand that Jesus is the Healer, but when the doctors just don't know, it may be time to seek an alternate help. Thank you for sharing your story and your lovely blog party site with us here at Tell me a Story.
Jaime Wiebel says
Great Tip Hazel. Some of our concerns have been resolved over time. They have all been unrelated. He is my little unknown. I keep going back to God wants me to give it to Him! He wants my total dependence when it comes to, well, everything. Thanks for your kind insight Hazel. So glad you stopped by.
Beth says
I'm so glad you've allowed these uncertain moments in your life, Jaime, to strengthen your resolve to trust the Lord who knows when we do not. What a powerful message that we all need to focus on. Thanks for the inspiration and the linkup, my friend!
Jaime Wiebel says
Thank you for the encouragement, Beth. Part of living through those moments are sharing and encouraging others. If that is the path we have to take to encourage others may it be used for God's Glory. Thank you for sharing, friend!
Melanie Redd says

Jaime Wiebel says
Thank you Linda for the encouragement. Sharing the hope that we have in us can be challenging but it is great to have friends encouraging us along the way. I am glad you stopped by today.
Dawn says
Jaime,
I remember reading this post last week and praying for you and your sweet boy. I am so sorry for the trial and the storm. Watching our children struggle and be ill is really really really hard. As a momma who has been there, know that I am praying for His mercy to be real to you tonight and for you to grasp the fullness of His faithfulness.
Blessings!
Dawn
Jaime Wiebel says
Dawn, that is so incredibly sweet of you! I would love to say we could go through life without those storms but in the storms we rely on God to be our calm. I am willing to meet Him there.
Charlene says
I went through this exact same feelings when we took my son to his 2 yr well child appointment. The doctor said the word Autism and the tears came. It's so hard to hear bad news about your babies. All you want to do is protect them and you have dreams for them. Thanks for linking up this great post to Family Joy Blog Link Up Party!
Jaime Wiebel says
Oh Charlene, what a blessing mama's like you are to their littles. It is hard to look at them and think or realize anything is possibly wrong. It is quite crushing as a parent. With Christ we have hope! I am glad that you have shared here today.
Karren Haller says
Jaime, I enjoy that you stop by each week to linkup on #OMHGWW, thank you and for hosting as well.
