He is Faithful

September 26, 2015 by Jaime Wiebel 19 Comments

My Grandma and I were talking today about the
faithfulness of God. My grandma whom I have had the privilege of studying the
Word of God with my whole life was telling me she could write a book about how
faithful God has been to her.
I said let’s do it. You get started. You have the first
one hundred pages and then I will take it from there.
This is her current story (I hope she doesn’t mind
me sharing). Living on Social Security. Just had home taxes due this month. Car
license plates to pay for. Car insurance. She pays everything after she tithes.
As she was sitting on a frontage road at a stop sign
two days ago, someone turned too close to the corner, crosses the line, hit the
front end of her car and continues to drive away.
With all these things going on in her life (finacially) and she
is reminding me how faithful God has been to her. Explaining how He has always
taken care of her and she is confident that He always will.
What an inspiration she is. She says she doesn’t have
to worry about where the money is going to come from or if she is going to get
it because she knows that GOD IS FAITHFUL.
She is right. He will never leave us
nor forsake us.

She loves to tell me the story of when her children
were small and my grandfather was hurt from work and they were living on $35 a
week. She said people were bringing in meals and groceries. Their bills were
always paid and they continued to trust God would take care of them and He did.
Here is my half of the book. Don’t worry today it
won’t be 100+ pages.
I have been a stay-at-home mom for 8 years. When my
husband and I decided that I would stay home we were not sure how we would be
able to manage with our income being cut by more than half.
I knew that God would take care of us. Growing up,
my family lived on a shoestring budget. I always felt like we had everything
even though I knew we didn’t have much money. It was a life I had been
accustomed to growing up and felt we too could handle it and knew God would be
faithful.
I have many similar stories as my grandma. There
are weeks that I have looked at the shampoo bottle and thought for certain it
will be gone before Friday and it lasts for two more weeks.
I cannot tell you how many times the diaper box has
looked nearly empty and should not last through Tuesday and it lasts until the
next payday.
When Mother Hubbard’s cupboard seems completely bare, we eat better meals than when our cupboards are full.
The checkbook appears to be completely empty but we
have not one more need until Friday payday.
Every bill is paid, every month and on time.
One thing that my husband and I have learned is we
were completely frivolous with our money before I stopped working. The most
important thing that we have learned, however, is GOD IS FAITHFUL.
Time and time again we seem to be living on the edge
of being completely empty and yet we have all we need.
In the past eight years we have not been without. GOD
IS FAITHFUL.
We are not frugal. We get the things we need and
often times get the things that we want but the bottom line is we trust that
God will take care of us. We trust His promises to us. We have no doubts of
what He will and can do because we have lived His promises.
I can rest in the promise of Matthew 6:25-26 “That
is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life–whether you have enough
food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your
body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest
or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far
more valuable to Him than they are?”
As my grandma and I were sitting by the pond at the
park today, we were admiring the instinctual skills of a large group of ducks walking around pecking at the ground.
I said, “What are they eating?” The only thing we could see were a few leaves and the
grass.
The funny thing was the ducks knew. They knew what
was there was worthy of being food. They knew where to go to get what they needed.
They were not wandering around the park with the heads thrown back, quacking
songs of worry about where they were going to get their next meal. It was just
there for them. They knew it.
Don’t miss the part in Matthew 6:26 when Jesus says,
“Aren’t you more valuable to Him than they are?” God takes care of the ducks.
They don’t question his sources. They don’t question the amount or if He has
limits. They just eat. No worries.

Christ reminds us we are more valuable than they are. What
am I promised? I am promised that God will take care of me and I can tell you without question GOD IS FAITHFUL.

Hi Jaime! Visiting from Literacy Musing Mondays and so glad I did. I'm sharing this post with a dear friend–we're both in a similar place of trust for our daily bread while stepping out to grow into greater things. God IS faithful–and we write blogs to shout out the fact. I hope you do finish your book with grandma. He is worthy to be praised!
    Joy!
    Kathy

Thank you Kathy for stopping by and your encouragement. Keep sharing the Word of God and trusting that He is Faithful. We all need those reminders and when we write them down they sometimes become more evident.

Write this book I tell you! Jaime, thank you for your honesty, in fact the verse that came to my mind was Philippians 4:11- be content in any state that you are in. I too have had to learn this and I can stretch my dollar from here to Europe! In every hardship, there is a lesson- He is faithful!

Thank you Tanya, I will have to talk to my grandma about the book deal. What a great verse. Be content with any state you are in. What a struggle that seems to be sometimes.

He cares for the flowers and sees that they are clothed too. We gave to my sister once clothes for my niece that my daughter out grew. We went through two years where my daughter's clothing was provided without us having to spend any money. We really would not have been able to provide as many clothes as she was given. Then, I left my job because of disability, but God still provides our needs and wants. He is so wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

We have been in that same position with my sister where she gave us many clothes for my son. What a great help it was and really saved us so much money.

I love it that your grandmother sets aside her tithes first before she pays her bills. I was taught to tithe, but when we married and Robert did not always have work, it was easy to hold back the tithe and plan to pay it later. All at once, something came up that took more than the tithe I held back. It pays to put God first. He is always faithful. Thanks for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.

I Love the verse from John 10:10 that says Christ came so that we may have life and have it abundantly. It is not always by the world's standards but by the riches God gives us. After all, we are heirs to the King of Kings. Loving My Lord!
