Recently, I was reading a daily devotional (Today in the Word by Moody Publishers) and it stated that half of the missionaries stated their biggest obstacle was working with other missionaries.
We do something we think is astounding and we turn to God and say, “What did you think?” We want a great big pat on the back. We want our measure of success to be according to the measure of our skills or accomplishments or in comparison to the person next to us.
And… we wonder if our Daddy noticed.
We become like the little girl twirling in her new Sunday dress and the little boy who has just climbed another mountain and we want our worship to mean more, to look better, and to sound better.
And, Yes, Your Daddy Notices You!

I love your comparisions. I have to be careful here in this area too. Our Father loves us and accepts us no matter what we do. Thank you for the party and so glad your linkup is growing each week.
Jaime Wiebel says
Thanks, Michelle. I think we all have to be careful in this area. We just sometimes hate to admit it. The truth is it can get in the way of us truly serving with a gracious heart. It can spoil ministries and what God has called each of us to do, individually and as a whole. It gives the devil a foothold to tear down many people. Thanks for coming each week!
Susan Shipe says
Jaime, thank you for the linkup and the encouragement each week!
Jaime Wiebel says

Raising Samuels says
This is so true. We need to be happy and appreciate others growing the Kingdom as well. Excellent post, Jaime! Thanks for hosting and hope you have an amazing week 🙂
Jaime Wiebel says
So glad you are here every week, friend! Like Mindy says in the comments below and we talked about last week the harvest is plenty. It is so easy to get distracted but the problem is we can quickly lose our focus and our own God-given purpose and become derailed. In my opinion is is much easier to just encourage others. It builds us all up. Thanks for sharing!
Mindy White says
The harvest is plenty and we need to work together for the Kingdom, yet I sometimes find myself comparing to others instead of encouraging them. So glad God loves me right where I am and continues to help me grow. Thanks for hosting!
Jaime Wiebel says
The harvest is plenty. God has called each us us to a different part of the body. It is our job to support and encourage each of those parts. Working together as Christ as our head. Thank you for sharing here, Mindy.

Hazel Moon says
Mine and mine alone – – as individuals we can feel this way about God, but we must realize others feel this way too. We are "Special" in His eyes, but others share in being God's favorites. As we get older and more mature, we get over being jealous and just take God like He is – our own personal God. (smile.) Thank you for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.
Jaime Wiebel says
You have nailed it, Hazel. Jealousy and Pride can consume a ministry and it is not only detrimental to the body as a whole but to furthering the kingdom of God. People don't want a part of that. They can get it anywhere. I am with you, I believe we can have our own personal relationship that is completely unique to us and God does find us all special for the uniqueness and giftedness that He has given us and I love that about Him. I hope we would be able to celebrate that in each other. We will all be better off for it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us here, Hazel.
Laura Acuna says
Beautiful post — I love the reminder that our daddy sees us. Visiting you from Holley's link up!
Jaime Wiebel says
Glad your here, Laura. Thank you for the encouragement and sharing with us this week. Your site is very pretty. I connected this week with you on Twitter. Hope to see you again.
Patrick weseman says
Wow, that it home for me.
Everything I have done positive in my life really nobody in my immediate world has cared. They have always put it down. When I graduated high school, my parental unit said you could have done better. When I graduated college my wife (now ex) didn't care. In both cases I never went to the graduation.
Those are the two most stunning examples. I was craving acceptance for what I had done from others, it took me a long time to figure out that the only acceptance I needed was from me. Forget the rest. There is a poem called "Man in the Mirror" I found and it really helped me. I am not going to post it here but it basically says if the person in the mirror is the only opinion that matters.
Jaime Wiebel says
Patrick, I just want to add that God loves you. He loves you very much. He cares what you do and He notices you. He noticed you graduated and He cheers you on. He notices that you take great photos and share your passions with the world through your site. He will never give up on you and He will never leave you. He cares what you think of yourself even when no one else seems to notice. I often think of the Jesus being rejected in His own hometown. The people thought they knew Him and so they rejected Him and they missed who He really was. A life with Christ can give you hope. Hope that you can always have Him and trust Him. I am glad you are here again this week.
Jaime Wiebel says
By the way, Patrick, I appreciate your honesty and sharing your heart with us here.
Karren Haller says

Elizabeth Marshall says
Hi! I found your blog through another link up party. As a Seminary student I see the "My Daddy" syndrome happen a lot among the students! I had never though of it that way before but you are absolutely right! Thank you for the encouragement and the link up party. I look forward to reading more of your posts.
Jaime Wiebel says
I am glad you stopped by this week, Elizabeth. I hope that you will be able to encourage others just as Christ encourages you. Sometimes a different perspective is all we need to get that ball moving. I could see how you would see this a lot as a seminary student. I must feel somewhat like competition to have the best ministry and gain the most knowledge. Seems like we should all be on the same team but somehow doesn't quite feel that way sometimes. I hope you are encouraged to keep pressing on. Have a great week!
elizabeth says
You are right! When I bless and encourage others, God blesses and encourages me.
Jaime Wiebel says
Blessing others, putting them above ourselves, can be such encouragement to our hearts. It is what Christ has called us to do. Love Him and Love others. Not just like them or treat them nicely, but love. That can be hard sometimes, but we are called there as believers. Glad you are here this week, Elizabeth.
Lori Schumaker says
Jaimie,
Such a fantastic spin to put on this nasty habit we have! You have titled it well! Comparing, needing approval, feeling insecure … it's all what takes away from simply doing the work of Christ and pointing to Him.
Beautiful post, friend!
Jaime Wiebel says
Pride, Jealousy, Insecurity. We can call it what it is, right. We all want Christ approval in what we do. But at what cost? The cost of leading and pointing others to Him. The cost of driving people away from Him. I believe, sadly, sometimes this is the case.
Building up the body. It is what we are about here! We need to be a unit. We need each other. We work better when the body is whole, not being torn apart.
You do an amazing job on your site encouraging and just sharing the love of Christ that flows from you. For that I am glad that we are connected. Love having ladies, such as yourself, on the same team. Thanks for the encouragement!
Karren Haller says
I like many did not have the parental support when I had any accomplishments, my husband talks of the same saying that his dad said, oh you just finished college to spite us. Its really sad how this happens.
Jaime you always have an eloquent way with your post, I enjoy them and Thank you stopping by the #OMHGFF this week. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Karren
Jaime Wiebel says
Karren, I am very sorry to hear that. Every time I read posts like this, I just want to run and squeeze my kiddos extra tight. If they weren't sleeping right now, I would.
It is truly sad and often times we then connect our not so great parental units growing up, with Christ. We view Christ in so many similar ways and sometimes that is hard to overcome.
We have the opportunity to be that to our children. Be the things our parents were and be the things our parents weren't. I know as a parent, I mess up daily. I can only rely on Christ to help me do better tomorrow.
I realize some people didn't have great parents. Great parents or not we have all been let down by someone. People are flawed.
Christ, however, will never let us down. If we are His children, He will always keep us tight in His grip and nothing can snatch us away. I am really glad you are here this week, Karren. I always look forward to seeing you.
Donna @ Soul Survival says
Jaime, thanks for hosting again this week. And thanks for your insights about the "Daddy syndrome." There is much truth there to be considered and taken to heart. It's all about Him, isn't it!
Jaime Wiebel says
You are right, Donna. It is all about Him. It is all about furthering His kingdom. It is all about loving each other in the process. My Daddy or your Daddy, I need to be your Sister in Christ and that doesn't mean sibling rivalry. It means building you up and encouraging you, so you can press on. Thanks for stopping by each week, friend!
Gayl Wright says
It's so important to encourage one another rather than compare as we are all working together to bring people to Christ. Thanks for this great reminder! I'm your neighbor at #UsCoffeeandJesus.
Jaime Wiebel says
Such truth, Gayl. We are working to bring people to Christ. All arrows should point to Him. Thanks for for stopping and sharing with us this week!
Lux G. says
True words! I think we have the tendency to compare as humans. But great points!
Jaime Wiebel says
We do have a tendency to compare ourselves to other humans. As believers, we are compared only to Christ, so that we can not boast and so we can come humbly before Him. How gracious He is to love us as His children no matter who we compare ourselves to. Thanks for you sharing here, Lux. Have a great week!
Horace@pleasingtothepotter.com says
Jaime.. thank you for the reminder that my Father is watching over me. I don't have to look around for His approval because He is always near. What words of encouragement. Comparison is a trap we must be careful to avoid as we keep our eyes on Him and His calling for our lives. Have a wonderful week and God bless!
Jaime Wiebel says
Praise the Lord, He is always near. I am not sure I could understand a god who doesn't know me right down to my inner being. The creator knows His work and we are blessed to have that kind of hope. It can be hard to focus on the world in which we live and on the people around us and compare ourselves to them. I do not believe that is pleasing to God and like you said it can become a trap that is hard to escape. Thanks for joining us every week, Horace. I am glad to get your insight.
Karen Woodall says
I think you are onto the idea that we want to be assured that Daddy notices me. We want approval in tangible forms rather than being challenged to trust what He has already said and rest in His Word. I definitely need practice at that! Thanks for the encouragement!
Hazel Moon says
Thank you for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story. We do want to impress our Daddy and also we feel the need to impress our Father God.
