None Like Him Book Review and Giveaway

May 11, 2016 by Jaime Wiebel 11 Comments

Book Cover From Amazon.com
Jen Wilkin’s new book None Like Him will inspire you to think or rethink your views of God page after page.  Ten ways God is different from us and why that’s a good thing is the premise of this page turner. Anytime I pick up a book and learn about God more in depth, I don’t want to put it down.
Jen Wilkin uses a list, used by many theologians, listing ten attributes of God, that only He has. This list is paired with a list of attributes of God that we, too, can attain. Even if you are aware of these attributes, for visual people like myself, it is great to see them in list form.
Each chapter of None Like Him goes into detail about these ten attributes that only God can have. Only God is Infinite, Incomprehensible, Self-Existent, Self-Sufficient, Eternal, Immutable, Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent.
I love how Jen Wilkin goes through each one of these attributes and combines Biblical truths with real-life situations.
Since the beginning of time, starting with Adam and Eve, man has tried to become like God and in many ways become their own gods. We set our sights on things that only God is and we get frustrated that life is not what we want it to be or thought it would be.
In realizing that only God can be God, we can move from worshipping creation and the things we make to worshipping the Creator.  We are then free to be in awe of the Almighty Himself.
This book would be great for the individual, small group, or large group study. There are several features that I really enjoyed in this book that make it great for study.
Each chapter begins with the attribute of God that pertains only to Him, from the list above, and then discusses the Biblical truth along with real-life scenarios. We see these attributes made visible in our lives and read examples of how we try to become like God in those ways. Then each chapter ends with Toppling the myth of human… (i.e. self-sufficiency) followed by verses to meditate on pertaining to that chapter, four questions to dig deeper, and an idea to write out a prayer reflecting on that attribute.
In the very back of the book, there are several pages to write personal reflections which you may feel is adequate space to answer the questions throughout the book or you may want a journal to accompany your time spent in this book.
This is certainly a book you will want to read. I would recommend this book to both women and men because the focus of this book was God and did not necessarily focus on issues faced only by women or men. As believers, I believe it is essential to understand God more to understand ourselves more. This book does a great job of relating today’s social issues with Biblical truths.

This is actually a really good book. 10 ways we are not like God and that is okay. That is awesome to have a God bigger than us and all that we are! Check it out and best wishes!

This one's on my Kindle, and I can't wait to dig in! I'm sharing her earlier book (Women of the Word) with the ladies of my church through a summer book club.

Great idea! I heard that was a good book, too. In fact a comment earlier on this post, Elle Alice said she loved it. You will have to tell us how your book club goes. Have a great week, Michelle.
