Planting the Seeds & Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #23

May 4, 2016 by Jaime Wiebel 39 Comments

Happy Mother’s Day to all my Mom friends out there! You have so much importance in the lives of your littles’ and bigs’. You are the ones planting those first seeds and watering them with your love. I thank God and pray for you this week as you continue to walk with your families in faith.

Join Me as we talk about planting the seeds of life!

My little guy loves the idea of gardening and being a farmer. Last summer, he went to the small patch where my parents planted potatoes, began digging, and dug up a whole basketful.

His immediate thought was to sell them. So we went to a few neighbors to see if they had interest. He made fifty cents on a small bunch. He was very excited.
This year, he has decided he is going to be a farmer. My husband decided to support his adventure by building a garden. He has big plans and he is eager to get started. He has plans for a garden/lemonade stand and selling vegetables of all varieties.
We started a few plants indoors to be ready for outdoor planting. I will not even show you the results. They are sad and straggly looking. While I am reminded that even with the best intentions, we can plant the seed and water them, but only God can make them grow.
We are reminded in

1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV) I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

Often times we work, we pray, we try to speak truth into lives around us and we are left wondering why our words and our lives seem to be falling on deaf ears.  We want those around us to experience the joy and peace that we receive from God, just to have it turned away.

Don’t lose heart my friend! Christ is the source of the growth. As His followers and disciples, we are to plant the seed and water it. Christ alone has the power to turn hearts and produce fruit.
The Story in John 4 tells us after Jesus had talked to the Samaritan woman at the well, His disciples returned. They were urging Jesus to eat.

Jesus replied, “His food is to do the will of the one who sent Him and to accomplish His work. Do you not say, ‘There are four months then comes the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” John 4:35-36 (NIV)

The disciples were wondering why Christ was talking to this Samaritan woman. What Christ was telling them was that there are many people that need to hear of God’s Word. She, who seemed like an unlikely candidate for spreading God’s Word, began immediately planting seeds that Christ soon grew.
So don’t ever think that even a small bit of God’s truth is a waste or your time or energy. We are told in

Isaiah 55:11 (NLT) It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Christ’s Word will not go out and return void. HE will accomplish with it what He has set out to do. It doesn’t need to be wrapped up in a pretty bow and camouflaged as something it is not. It has the power of The Word backing it up.

The Gospel is the food that feeds the soul. Sharing it is the will of the Father. Christ came to accomplish that work.
The fields are wide open with many people that need the seed of the Good News of Christ to be planted in their hearts. Let’s be eager to get to the fields while the harvest is plenty. While the time is now.

So get busy friends, planting seeds, watering fertile ground, and doing God’s work because God’s mighty hand is ready to make all things new with growth.

    Hi Jaime,
We can only do what God leads us to do…and He will decide what will grow, as well as when & how. Thank you, your post is a great reminder of this. Visiting today from #RaRaLinkup. God bless!

Thank you, Laura for visiting today. I think this can be a timely reminder when we try to rush things and have them done and accomplished in our time. I have to be willing to walk in those steps planting, watering, and watching Him make it all grow!

So true, Jaime! It is sometimes hard to plant the seed of Christ in someone, and not necessarily see it grow right away. Thanks so much for a wonderful post, and for hosting! Hope you have an amazing week 🙂

You are right, Kelly. It is hard to plant that seed and in our lifetime we may never see what it produces. I don't know where that could possibly be harder to watch than in the lives of our kids. Keep planting, friend! You're doing great work!

Thank you for hosting, Jaime! God has been speaking to me about sowing a lot lately. Have you heard Andrew Peterson's song "The Sower's Song"? I have it on repeat all day long.

Isn't it such a blessing that we can take part in God's work but the results are up to Him. It could swig the door wide open in so many ways for us. I think we sometimes put pressure on ourselves to share but we just have to put out the seed and let Him grow it all. Trust. Such a great word added here. Thank you so much, Elizabeth, for sharing with us here.

Jaime, what a great reminder! I think we can all struggle with letting God do the watering! Its hard to wait on His timing. We expect to receive the harvest on those seeds right after planting, but we know that doesn't happen! Gods about the process, not the end result! Thanks for sharing this with us today! You are right. God is about the process or growing and learning and leaning on Him. He wants ALL of us and sometimes that takes some pruning. Thanks for joining us and sharing your thoughts.

This concept has been such an encouragement when I feel the stress of trying to make things grow. Then I remember, we are to plant faithfully and trust God for the results. Great reminder of this truth today!

Lori, this is such a great reminder that you are giving us. We feel like we work and it is not going anywhere but we are not the ones in control of the eternal impact on people. We just have to keep planting. God will do what He always does. Because He is Faithful. So glad you are here this week, friend!

This is a good word to keep in mind on this Mother's Day, Jaime. There are so many ways that Christian moms sow God's word in the hearts of their children and sometimes it feels like it's returning void. I have a bit of that with my youngest son who is now 20. I want to see him grabbing hold of his faith more than he is, but I pray that in time God will bring the increase. Thanks so much for the linkup and Happy Mother's Day to you!

This is hard, especially when it is our children or someone we have been praying for for a long time and they seem unresponsive. It is by God's grace that we were saved and it is by His grace that they are to. Thank s for sharing your heart with us today!

What a Beautiful reminder Jaime! God asks us to be obedient in planting and watering His words of truth consistently and leaving the growth and the producing of fruit to Him. I am humbled and honored to be a "planter" for Christ. I want to trust His leading every day. Thank you for sharing your heart here and allowing us the opportunity to share. It seems like "Seeking God" is growing! I wish you continued success in your endeavors. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day and blessings to you and yours!

What a humbling job God has called us to do. Be His planters. I am glad that it is not up to me to make things grow. I fear I would falter too often. Thankful God is bigger than our biggest ideas and endeavors. Also, humbled to be serving Him here and serving beside all of the amazing people that come here every week. This site only grows because of the graces of God, the plans He has to reach people, allowing me to continue this work and because He allows us to meet here every week to encourage one another. Such a great opportunity! Glad you are a part of it, Horace.
