She Treasured Them In Her Heart & Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #35

July 27, 2016 by Jaime Wiebel 10 Comments

“Mommy, Come here I have to tell you something. I have a secret to tell you. Come close. (In a whisper voice with arms wrapped around my neck.) Mommy, I Love You with all my heart. Don’t tell anyone that is just for you.” From God’s Little Princess.
And I treasured it in my heart.

Last week, I told you about my little girl telling me we read the Bible to know the heart of God. If you haven’t read it yet you can find it here.

All these things she treasured in her heart.

Mary was a young girl and was about to give birth to her first born.  He would be a son and she would call His name Jesus. He would be great and called the Son of the Most High God.
I imagine as Mary is hearing the angel Gabriel deliver this news to her ears, she began to store them up in her heart. What would this mean? How drastically this would change this young girl’s life.
Parenting comes with many many changes. No matter how the news is delivered. I can’t fathom the thoughts of this young virgin girl hearing she would soon become a new mother to the One whose kingdom would never end.
What I can know is the heart of a new mom in the moment, when all time seems to stand still, and your heart grows as you begin to treasure new memories in your heart.
Luke 2:19 tells us, But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them. HCSB
In this moment, the shepherds were in from the night of choirs of angels revealing to them the King had been born. They came to see Him and they were amazed. They went through town spreading the news.
Mary was storing up this moment in her heart and meditating on it. Thinking about the implications of what this may mean for her child and for her new family.
One other time in Luke we see him use this same phrase. Here, it has a little different form but means kept as in she didn’t want to lose it.
Luke 2:51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. NIV
I know many of you reading this are parents and have treasured many precious moments from your children deep in your hearts.
The way they look like angels when they are sleeping. The way they look at you like you are the greatest love they will ever know. Those days they tell you they are going to live with you forever.
Even if those days are far gone, I am sure they have a very special place in your heart. A place that nothing and nobody can take away. A place where your heart longs for them so you recall and meditate on the love you have for them and try to keep those moments in the forefront of your mind.
Oh, the blessings of being a parent! To have those moments that we can treasure in our hearts.  I have the amazing opportunity to share some of those moments with you and am honored you listen.
I know many people keep journals of funny things their kids say and stories they would like to recall. I have a place here on my site called Joy in the Moment where I keep a running list of some of the precious things I want to remember.
If you are thinking to yourself, I wish I had done that or I should really start doing this.
Now is the time! Start a journal today about the things you want to keep. It is always fun to go back and read them and recall those favorite times or moments.
I am going to help you get started! Below is an A4 png file picture. Feel free to save and print it. You can also download a smaller pdf file for smaller journals here. You can paste it to the front of a journal and start filling it with all those memories you have treasured.
I would love to hear from you. Either on this or on my page Joy In the Moments. Would you leave us a comment about one of those precious times you stored up in your heart? I can’t wait to read them.

Your little girl's words are absolutely precious! For sure, you are treasuring them in your heart. I, too, am a mom to a daughter, and I have to tell you that even when they grow up and get married, that incredible love remains. My daughter tells me all the time how much she loves me and that I am the best mom in the world (I'm NOT!). I cherish those words now just as much as I did when she was little.

Thank you for hosting this party each week. I'm glad to be a part of it.

    Blessings,
    Patti @ Embracing Home

I became a mom when I married my step son's dad 6 years ago (the boy was 13 then…) And I couldn't ask for a better kid- they say blending a family is not easy, but I've never had that experience. The moment I treasure most is from about 3 years ago during the invitation hymn at church, my son looked at me and said I think I'm gonna go up. He was baptized the following week ♥ Thanks for giving us such a blessed format to come here and share and encourage each other Jaime ♥

Thank you for sharing your lovely site with us here at Tell me a Story. Oh yes, do keep a "Baby book" or a hard copy journal you can write in about the precious or funny things your children say. You will forget if you don't write them down. I have some wonderful things our son said, but when baby # 2 and # 3 came along I was not so diligent. 🙁

Thanks so much for this important reminder, Jaime. I actually have an annual ritual of writing a letter to each of my boys (now young men) that chronicles the past year and shares special memories and thoughts I have of each of them. They keep the letters in a notebook, to be added to each year. I've done it now for 12 years, so I hope it gives them a peek inside their mama's heart over the years. I don't feel as if they "treasure" it all that much now, but to let me know that might mean "revoking their man card!" Lol! Thanks for the linkup, the beautiful graphic and the words to follow, my friend!
