Most of my teenage years and through my twenties, I managed to accumulate a large amount of baggage in my life.

I found myself on the run from myself and from my reality.

In fact, I moved 5000 miles from my home just to try and become who I thought I could be.

In my island paradise, I found myself crumpled up on the bathroom floor crying out, “I am a good girl.”

Who I had become was the girl that had added to the mess daily and covered it up with a smile on her face.

Now that I look back on it, I can see the Lord and His hand in my life, clutching me tight, not willing to let go. My many decisions should have turned out much more disastrous than they did.

My one regret was grieving
My God.

My Lord.

My Father.

I had given my life to Christ when I was a preteen but lived my life completely for myself. We have been given free will to do just as we please and that is exactly how I lived.

I grew up going to church. I knew all the right things to do and say but I had driven a great divide between my fellowship with God in my life.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:2

The Rock on which I now know I can stand firm on, never left me. As far away as I felt, the truth was I was the one who drifted away. Not God.

I know this to be true of God. He can turn your messes into something He can use for His purpose.

What Christ did for me was took a hold of my life in a way that I could not have expected. He found a way to draw me back to Him. Of Course, there can be consequences for our behaviors but God can use it for our good, for His Glory.

What Christ did for me was turn my past into a passion. A passion for sharing His redemptive never-ending love and how it reaches far beyond our mess.

I can rest my hope in who He says I am and not on my past or my mistakes.

He takes our ashes and turns them into beauty.

He will replace our grieving with joyous blessing.

Instead of living a life in despair, even when we have driven ourselves there, He will replace it with Praise.

He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and no matter our situation, He is willing, upon repentance, to restore all of our brokenness.

He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the LORD’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory. Isaiah 61:2-3

Do you have a past you wish you could erase or escape the shame? Have you faced circumstances in which you need restoration?

My friends, there is hope! I am a testament to the Living God that offers restoration to the broken. A God who is in the business of making all things new.

Are you ready to take the steps into trusting a God that seeks your heart? To love you and make you whole again?

He is simply a conversation away. He is waiting to hear from you.

Cry out to the Lord who reigns in both Heaven and Earth.

Seek Him and you will find Him when you seek Him with all of your heart. Deuteronomy 4:29

Do You Want Knowledge or Truth & Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #27

Have you ever heard anyone sing this tune? Of course, I believe in God. No, I don’t read the Bible, it is too complicated, I can’t understand it for myself, and I can’t remember what I have read.

If you have ever said this, there is good news. The good news is, in Christ, you have been given a teacher to teach you.

Coming from a teaching background, I have a tendency for seeking knowledge. In fact, sometimes I wish I could just have my head jammed full of information because I love to learn.

For me personally, there have been times in my walk with Christ when I believed the only way I could be closer to God was to know more about God and understand the Bible. I have also fallen into the trap of believing the only way to understanding was for someone to explain it to me.

I knew the stories. I had heard them a thousand times. As I have grown in Christ, I have realized the importance of being taught straight from His Word.

Growing up, somewhere along the way, I missed the importance of picking up the Bible as part of my daily life. I missed the essential part of walking with Christ was walking through His Word and forming a bond and need for Him.

1 John 2:27 says: But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true–it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ. (NLT)

We can quickly get on a journey to know so much about Christ that we miss key elements. Knowing about Christ is not the same as knowing Him. Believing there is a God is not the same as believing and putting our trust and faith in God. Being taught about God is not the same as learning from God.

1 John can give us a confidence in studying God’s Word like never before.

If we want to know what God’s Word says, we have to take the first step in seeking His truth. We have to open the Word that HE has given us. The Holy Spirit will guide us to understand it’s truth. When the time comes for us to recall the truths, the Holy Spirit will put it to our minds.

The Holy Spirit was given as an advocate for us. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would come as His representative and teach us all things and remind us of the things He taught us (John 14:26).

Notice 1 John also says the Holy Spirit teaches us everything we need to know and what He teaches is true. We can read all kinds of amazing books that teach about Christ, I know, I have.

One thing we have to be careful of is knowing whether it is truth or one person’s interpretation. We have to be able to discern the truth. We can only do that if we know the truth and we can only know the truth when we go to the source of truth- God’s Word.

There is a lot of information coming at us from all directions, let’s be honest, it is not all truth and some very far from it. In fact, reading this article you can only discern the truth of it by seeking God’s Word. Looking up the verses that I have given and have God teach you for yourself what He wants you to draw from His Word.

What we believe as Christians always has to come down to clinging to the truth of God’s Word. We don’t have to walk around in the dark being led by the knowledge someone else has gained. We only need the Holy Spirit to guide us in our teaching.

Three things to help you begin.

1. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and seek the truth that is laid out before you. Holy Spirit, Teach Us, Remind Us!

2. Open God’s Word and let the Power of the Holy Spirit fill you. May My Cup Run Over!

3. Enjoy the journey! Seek to Know the Truth!

But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #3

Thank you for coming back to Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #3. I hope that you have enjoyed the last two parties. I have loved all the ideas, inspiring stories, giveaways, and encouragement that we have received from all of the bloggers. If you have not been able to read those posts you won’t want to miss them you can find them here at Party #1 and Party #2.

I am so glad to see so many new faces and sit down with all of you.

This week, as we get closer Christmas, I love reflecting on the birth of Christ. What a Miracle we are able to retell about Christ coming to this Earth to rescue us.

The prophets and the all God’s people for generations had been waiting for the promised Messiah to return and He finally did. His rescue was not ordinary. In fact it was so extraordinary that many people missed it and still miss it today.

Friends, I do not want you to miss the opportunity to know Christ and to have a genuine relationship with Him. Do not wait and do not miss it. His return will happen and on that day, on that amazing glorified day, you don’t want to find out you were too late.

But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

Seek Him, He is knocking at the door. Let Him in. He will show you what the next step is.
