I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend for everyone who celebrated. One thing I love about holidays is spending time with family. 

With that being said, I think it is essential to take the time to step away and focus on family and that is what we did today. 

Here in the Midwest, it is always raging hot on the fourth and this day was no exception. Our family fourth tradition includes going to two parades, collecting lots of candy, cookouts, and fireworks. We have done this since I have been a kid and there is something wonderful about continuing those traditions with my own children. 

This is a great opportunity to not only celebrate our freedom as a country but as believers celebrate who we are in Christ. 

In Christ, we are free. John 8:36 says, So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

We have been set free from the bonds of sin. Sometimes it is hard to live as free people and if we are not careful we can put ourselves back in that bondage. 

Another type of bondage we can place ourselves under is the law. I know in talking with people, as believers it is sometimes really tough not to try to live by the law and it can actually bind us instead of offering us freedom. 

Paul talks to the church in Galatia about falling under the false pretenses of the leadership and going back to laws that Christ has freed us from on the cross. 

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Galatians 5:1

This is a much deeper topic that I would love to go into but I am going to save that for another time because I want to share to posts that I have previously written about two men in my life that have bravely fought for our freedom.

My grandfathers were my heroes. They were brave and have helped me understand the beauty that we have in our freedom both in both Christ and as a citizen. I am very excited and proud to share a small piece of their stories. 

The first story is about my paternal grandpa. He was 93 when he passed away 4 years ago. He was an amazing grandpa who stood about five feet tall but was never short on telling us how much he loved us.

In fact, one day I walked into his house and I said, “Hi grandpa” and he looked at me and said, “I love you and don’t you let anyone tell you anything different.” We were surely loved and he wanted us to know. Continue that story here in Men Like Him!

My second story is one of faithfulness. My grandpa (my mom’s dad) was not only faithful in service to his country but to his God. 

My grandpa was fun, loving, honorable, and faithful. He was devoted endlessly to his family, had a great sense of humor, and a love for Jesus that was undeniable. He spent his life giving back all God had given to him.

My grandpa passed away six weeks before I got married. We were all at the hospital his final week of life. No one wanted to leave him for a moment because we wanted to absorb every second of life that we had left with him.

My grandpa was at such a deep peace. He seemed to be the only one ready to let go. He would call people to his bedside to take the opportunity to witness to them or give them some final life advice. Continue his story here in a Life like His!
