<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend for everyone who celebrated. One thing I love about holidays is spending time with family.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
With that being said, I think it is essential to take the time&nbsp;to step away and focus on family and that is what we did today.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
Here in the&nbsp;Midwest, it is always raging hot on the fourth and this day was no exception. Our family fourth tradition includes going to two parades, collecting lots of candy, cookouts, and fireworks. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.1.0/72x72/1f386.png" alt="🎆" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> We have done this since I have been a kid and there is something wonderful about continuing those traditions with my own children.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
This is a great opportunity to not only celebrate our freedom as a country but as believers celebrate who we are in Christ.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
In Christ, we are free.&nbsp;<i>John 8:36 says, So&nbsp;if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
We have been set free from the bonds of sin. Sometimes it is hard to live as free people and if we are not careful we can put ourselves back in that bondage.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
Another type of bondage we can place ourselves under is the law. I know in talking with people, as believers it is sometimes really tough not to try to live by the law and it can actually bind us instead of&nbsp;offering&nbsp;us freedom.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
Paul talks to the church in Galatia about falling under the false pretenses of the leadership and going back to laws that Christ has freed us from on the cross.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<i>So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don&#8217;t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Galatians 5:1</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
This is a much deeper topic that I would love to go into but I am going to save that for another time because I want to share to posts that I have previously written about two men in my life that have bravely fought for our freedom.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">

<p>My&nbsp;grandfathers&nbsp;were my&nbsp;heroes. They were brave and have helped me understand the beauty that we have in our freedom both in both Christ and&nbsp;as a citizen. I am very excited and proud to share a small piece of their stories.&nbsp;</p></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<br />The first story is about&nbsp;my paternal grandpa. He was 93 when he passed away 4 years ago. He was an amazing grandpa who stood about five feet tall&nbsp;but was never short on telling us how much he loved us.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
In fact, one day I walked into his house and I said, “Hi grandpa” and he looked at me and said, “I love you and don’t you let anyone tell you anything different.” We were surely loved and he wanted us to know.&nbsp;<a href="http://www.jaimewiebel.com/2015/06/men-like-him.html" target="_blank">Continue that story here in Men Like Him</a>!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<br />My second story is one of faithfulness. My grandpa (my mom&#8217;s dad) was not only faithful in service to his country but to his God.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
My grandpa was fun, loving, honorable, and faithful. He was devoted endlessly to his family, had a great sense of humor, and a love for Jesus that was undeniable. He spent his life giving back all God had given to him.</div>
<p></p>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
My grandpa passed away six weeks before I got married. We were all at the hospital his final week of life. No one wanted to leave him for a moment because we wanted to absorb every second of life that we had left with him.</div>
<p></p>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
</div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
My grandpa was at such a deep peace. He seemed to be the only one ready to let go. He would call people to his bedside to take the opportunity to witness to them or give them some final life advice.&nbsp;<a href="http://www.jaimewiebel.com/2015/06/a-life-like-his.html" target="_blank">Continue his story here in a&nbsp;Life like&nbsp;His</a>!</div>

There are many questions that surround the new and the old. Out with the old in with the new. That saying can leave a bit of a sting. If we have the old or become the old. We don’t necessarily want it to be set aside because the new came along.</div>

That is how many of the Pharisee’s felt as Jesus was telling them He had come to fulfill the law. The law (the old covenant) was what they knew. It had become their identity. Through it, they knew who they were. It was linked to their family heritage and it was to set them apart from the rest of the world. It would signify them as children of God.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It cannot be a surprise as to why Jesus rocked their world. He was essentially telling them, all they ever knew or understood was going to be turned around. Who and what they held so tightly to, needed to be made complete and it was going to come as something new.</div>

<p>While the old covenant and the laws pointed us to our sin and the need for a Savior, the law was not designed to give us a new heart. </p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

The old covenant was established with Moses and is often referred to as the ten commandments. There were also many laws that were given to the people such as festivals, sacrifices, and purifications. You can find them in the first few books of the old testament.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some are lead to believe that the laws are no longer good or appropriate for our time. We live under grace. While that is true, because Christ came to fulfill the law, all the laws are not obsolete. In Matthew 5 Jesus said I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

Christ made the law complete because He could give us a new conscience and a new heart. He would now write the laws on our hearts and put them in our minds.</div>

I understand that many may be thinking we are free from the law. It is no longer relevant. While some laws had their own purposes, God’s law is not abolished.</div>

As parents, we want our children to follow those rules not just because we said so, although we may say that, but we want them to follow the rules because we love them and gave them for their safety and growth. We want them to show that love to us by being obedient. </div>

Before we know Christ as our Savior, we are living in rebellion to God. The laws are set so that we can see and understand how far away from a perfect God we are. They are for us to understand what sin is, as Paul explains in Romans 7. </div>
