Have you been here? Curled up in a ball. Crying out to the Lord. Just a complete mess and the only thing that you can do is turn yourself over to the King of your Heart.

Maybe, He is not that. Maybe you are grasping at straws at this point and know nowhere else to turn. Maybe you have gotten to what feels like the bottom of the pit that looks endless as you look up.

Let me assure you, looking up is the best move. The one who created you can hear you. Turn to Him. Maybe He feels like the last resort and maybe you haven’t realized He is the only resort.

Life is hard. Someone who knew that well was David. As a young boy, he was anointed King of God’s people. The problem was, there was already a king. A king who wasn’t going to quickly give up his crown or his sons right to reign.

David was chased down for more than a decade. He lived in caves and knew the desperation of literally running for his life.  He was in wars and constant turmoil and if those problems weren’t enough, he was pretty good at creating his own.

You may have been there. In the turmoil that was self-inflicted and thought there was no hope. Maybe you are just in the turmoil we call life.

If you are thinking that turning to God is not a plausible answer.  I can tell you from experience, it is the only answer.

Don’t lose hope. Don’t lose sight of the possibility of hope. God will hear you when you cry out to Him.

Now, I say this with a bit of hesitation. I know there are people reading this that don’t trust God as their personal Savior and only turn to Him when life gets rough and wonder why He doesn’t answer. 

Isaiah 59:1-2 (NLT) says: Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.

If you have unrepented sin against God, that is something that you must take care of. 

If you have an unrepented life, you must submit your life, turn from your sins, and realize He is the only one that is going to save you and make all things new. Your sins may have kept God from stepping into your situation. If you want to talk about this further, I am here for you. Just me a message.

As for David, he was called a Man after God’s own heart and yet we see his sins clearly time and time again. David, however, repents and cries out to the Lord. Verse after verse David gives God glory for not turning away from Him. He gives God his praise through songs about hearing and being near when He cries out.

Here are just a few of David’s psalms. He knows that the Lord hears him when he cries out to Him.

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1 (NIV)

Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. Psalm 116:2 (NASB)

But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Psalm 66:19 (ESV)

Through the last couple of weeks, we have talked about remembering God’s faithfulness. One way to do this is to look throughout history, God’s Biblical History and see the evidence of that.

In 2 Kings, the LORD first reminds Isaiah that He is the God of his ancestor David. In that God reminds us of His faithfulness and constant presence to the generations. Then he tells Isaiah to tell Hezekiah that He hears his prayers and sees his tears.

“Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the LORD. 2 Kings 20:5 (NLT)

He is not a distant God that is too far off from His people. His arm is not too weak to hold us up nor is His ears too deaf to hear.

Immanuel is the with us God so do not lose hope. Do not be afraid that the distance has grown to great. If you have turned away, turn back and cry out. He will hear your cries.

God is in the business of healing broken hearts, mending what needs fixed and making whole what was once shattered. He can do the same for you.

When was the last time you can yourself uninhibitedly to the Lord? Did you feel the freedom and peace that only He can offer?
