One of my favorite things to do is to discuss scripture with people so I am glad that you have joined me today to talk about a part of scripture that cannot be overlooked.

So often we want to point out the qualities of God that fit into a neat box or help us to connect to Him or help us to feel like we understand Him.

Maybe we need forgiveness so we like to stress that God is a God of mercy or a God of Grace. Maybe we are lacking compassion in our lives so we say God is a God of Love. While God is all those things, He is much more.

I was telling a confidant the other day (my grandma), the more I learn about God, the less I feel like I know about God. The more knowledge I gain, the smaller I get and the bigger He becomes.

In our pursuit to make God what we need Him to be we often overlook our need for dependence and a genuine relationship. We make God someone we can wrap our minds around.

Paul speaks in Philippians about God transcending our understanding. Job gives us a picture of how great and marvelous our God is and reminds us that He is beyond our understanding.

The reality of God is He is the One in whom we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). He is the Author of our Life and to play Him as anything smaller would be a huge understatement and we would miss His all encompassing attributes.

Something that always transcends my understanding is why a God so great and marvelous would choose a wretched people like us to love, to die for, to forgive, and to call His own.

The greatest love story, in my opinion, is that of a Father choosing His Only Son to be a sacrifice for all of humanity. A story that transcends my understanding.

I don’t know about you personally, okay, I do, but we’ll get to that in a minute. But as for me, I don’t deserve the redemption. I don’t deserve the mercy or the grace. I didn’t deserve for God to leave His throne and humble Himself to rescue me.

As for you, you fall in the same arena as I do. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”

Now that we are all on the same page. We can see our need for a Savior is more than just a morning cup of coffee.

Because of our sin, our relationship with God is broken. God provided a way for it to be restored on the cross. Our life rests in His hands and here is the great news.

News that can be beyond our understanding but doesn’t have to be beyond our reality. God came to rescue us, not because we deserve it, but because of who He is. He is Love. He wants us to be restored to a perfect relationship with Him.

The same God who created the stars and calls each of them by name set a plan in motion that would not only make us right with Him now but for all of eternity.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith— and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift of God.

I hope you caught that. It is not of yourselves. It is not based on whether we deserve grace because we don’t. That is why it is called grace. That is why it is a gift.

I am relieved by that news, how about you? The creator of heaven and earth offered us a free gift. One we don’t deserve but one He wants to give us.

What is it and How do I get it?

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

My grandma once told me that her mom used to always say, “The way you people talk anyone can be saved.”

I don’t want you to miss this. The answer is Yes! Yes, you can!

Christ came to earth. In the flesh, humbled Himself as a servant and died for each one of us. Three days later, He was raised from the dead and now sits at the right hand of God as king and authority over all.

Read Romans 10:9 again.

The choice is yours. Do you choose to believe that today? Do want to call Him Lord of your life?

Believe in what He did on the cross and that He was raised from the dead. Seek His Forgiveness. Believe in your heart that need you Him because He is the Only Way. Confess this to Him. And You will be saved. Isn’t that Awesome!

My son asked me an interesting question today. At first, I wondered about what must have been going through his head. After thinking about his curiosity, I realized it is a question we all have we just don’t always think of it in these terms.

The conversation went like this…

Mom, does everything have an expiration date?

I had to think about it. Before I could get in any real thought, the one-sided conversation went flying.

Well, the towel doesn’t have an expiration date, does it? A bar of soap? That doesn’t really expire. Well, maybe it does. You know that teacher that had his kids buy the Twinkie that lasted for 40 years. They ate some and put one on the plate. That is still good. Maybe, Twinkies don’t expire.

Then came the kicker…

Do we have an expiration date? Well, maybe not. Well, I guess we do. Well, we won’t have one in heaven.

Oh, from the mouth of a babe.

Do we have an expiration date?

It’s what we all know to be true. It’s something we don’t often want to face. To face our own mortality can be scary. It puts life in quick perspective.

In today’s world, we seem to be faced with a lot of uncertainty.

Sometimes, feelings of hopelessness and the feeling of being defeated.

Friends, there is good news. There is hope. We can have that hope in Jesus.

Faith in Christ can give us the assurance that we need. Life in this world is temporary but eternal life, life after this world, is exactly what the word says. It is forever.

Although there are many different views on life after death it is certain that everyone wonders about life after death.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Not coincidentally, eternal life or the longing for the eternal was set in our hearts by our creator. Simply put, whether we believe in eternity or life eternally with Christ, our creator has put the longing to even wonder about eternity in our hearts. I have to say, He is nothing shy of amazing.

God wants us to long for Him. Our Creator wants us to long for a life in eternity with Him. Tweet This!

It can feel confusing. We have this longing and at first, we are not always sure what it is. We seek it out in so many ways and places. When it all seems to be unfulfilling and unsatisfying to the longing of our heart, we are left empty.

But how can we be sure that if we accept the gift Christ has to offer us of life eternal that it will be certain. Most of us won’t take something, even something free, without a guarantee or warranty.

One of my favorite guarantees comes from Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

We can have confidence. I love that word. I can know that if I put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, I can have assurance in what He says is going to happen. Even though I can’t see it, my faith and hope in Christ are secure.

So what do you do? To have this hope? To have this faith?

Tweet This!

Giving your life to Christ means recognizing that you are a sinner (this means that you have done wrong against God).

Romans 3:23 tells us that All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.

This brings us to the next thing we need to realize, God is perfect.

This has left a giant gap between our sin and God’s Glory. You can think of it like the bridge to heaven is out because it is broken by our sin.

The Good News of the Gospel says that because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a way was made for the bridge to be fixed so we could join God in heaven. That longing that was placed in our heart can be satisfied through a relationship with Jesus.

Here’s How: You can pray this prayer.

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I ask for you to forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the dead. I want to trust and give my life to you. I want to follow you as Lord and Savior of my Life. Lord, guide me and help me to do your will in my life. In your Name, Amen!

Every week, Christa has something new to teach me about being a blogger. This week I was so impacted by her post. She discussed the sad loss of her friend and the role she had in online ministry. Christa, as always encouraged us in our walk with Christ and how to incorporate that into an online ministry. She talks about leaving a legacy with our families so they see us not just sitting as our computer but know how we are serving Christ. Thank you so much, Christa. I am happy to call you friend!

My son made his, I don’t know, 5th
appearance on the step the other day. No, this is not a new television show. It
is where my kids go when they misbehave. As always, I want my kids to learn
from there mishaps so when they get up I have them apologize to whomever they’ve
wronged. They start with, “I am sorry for…, will you forgive me followed by a
hug.”

My son is at the age where I really want him to
think about his consequence so he can turn his behavior around. As he is on the
step he asks if it is time to get up. So he says, “Mom can you forgive me.” My
reply was, not to be unforgiving but so he would think a little deeper about
his apology, “How many times do I have to forgive you for the same thing?” His
reply, “Well, God said 70 times.”

Forgiveness can be a complex topic. There is also
something very uncomplicated about it.

One reason I have my children apologize, even if
sometimes it is out of habit, is someday they are going to have to repent to their
Heavenly Father.

Having a faith in Christ and a relationship with Christ, begins with repentance. Recognizing that you are a sinner and without Him
you are a dying soul and you are coming to Him because He alone can save you.

For all have sinned
and fall short of the Glory of God. Romans 3:23

I want my kids to know that they can come to me when
they have done wrong. I want them to know that no matter the offense, to
restore the hurt, there needs to be that I am sorry moment. I want my kids to
know that because I am forgiven they too will be forgiven.

The verse my son was referring to was from Matthew
18. The story is from a parable that Jesus was teaching His disciples. Peter had
asked Jesus in verse 21, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me
and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus replied in verse 22, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy
times seven.”

Often times, I catch myself saying to my kids (Have
you ever said this line?), “How many times do I have to tell you?” I get this
reply from the Holy Spirit, not an audible voice, but a very clear one, “How
many times have I had to tell you?”

It doesn’t mean that my kids go without
consequences, it means, I need to be merciful, it means I need to show them the
same grace that was given to me.

If Heaven could shout down at me, God would have
every right to say, “How many times have I told you and how many times do I
need to forgive you for the same thing?”

When my Father sees me, Praise the Lord, He sees me
through the cross, he sees me through Christ. He has time and time again showed
me His mercy. He has time and time again showed me His grace.

In the parable in Matthew, Jesus was teaching of the
Unforgiving Servant, the servant owed his lord more that he could ever repay.
But when he bowed down before his master and asked for patience to repay the
debt, his master showed him great mercy. He completely wiped his debt away.

The servant then went to a fellow servant and began
choking him and demanding his debt be repaid immediately and since he could not,
he had him thrown in jail. The master was not happy when he heard of this
behavior. He had just forgiven him for a debt he could never pay and he couldn’t
even forgive a fellow servant for a small debt.

We owe Christ a debt that we could never pay. There is
no amount of money and not enough good deeds for us to do to get our broken relationship
with Him restored.

We can only be saved, we can only be forgiven, through
the grace of Jesus Christ. We can only be redeemed through the blood shed on
the cross by the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world.

Christ chose to give us that grace. He chose to give
us the free gift of eternal life. To receive this gift we have to stand before
our Heavenly Father. We have to acknowledge that we are sinners. We have to
repent and ask forgiveness of our sins. We have to confess with our mouths that
Jesus is Lord and that only He can save us.

Accepting this gift will free us from the bonds us
our sin.

That’s awesome! I don’t know about you but that it
such sweet news to my lowly ears because I would never make it. I, like my son,
have needed forgiven at least seventy
times.

Christ’s amazing grace has set me free. My debt has
been paid. Because of Him, I am able to show that same love, that same mercy,
and extend his grace to my own children and to others.

Do you need forgiven today? Are you still waiting to
make that decision to follow Christ? Wait no longer. The same arms that were
stretched across the cross are waiting to receive you.

But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought
us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5
