Do you follow something or someone?
Maybe it is your favorite sports team. Maybe it is a favorite website or a group on Facebook or Twitter. Think of all the things that you follow.
Maybe if you are like me, it is your small children that you follow around the house picking up after them because they are like little tornados always tearing through everything faster than you can notice or keep up with. If you read that sentence in one breath you will get the picture. Maybe that’s just me.
Would you follow this man?
After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and tempted in the wilderness, He began His ministry. He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the Sea of Galilee. As He was walking along the sea, He saw two brothers, Peter and Andrew. They were throwing their nets into the water, because they were fishermen. He said to the two men, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed Him. (Matthew 4:18 – 20)
Immediately. WOW! That is some influence. What do you imagine that He was like to have that kind of influence on people? For them to stop ALL they were doing and just follow.
Quite amazing!
Do some people or things that are in your life or come into your life have that kind of effect on you? There are several websites or groups online that have millions of followers. What’s the draw? What do they have that gets you into their grips and makes you come back everyday or several times a day?
A few years ago, we had a pastor that had that kind of influence on me. I would sit in his studies and I couldn’t get enough. He was completely compelling, he was so brilliant and knew His Bible inside and out and walked in such humility that you could not help but just look forward to your next meeting. I could brag all day about this man but I know what he would say, It is not about me, I do it all for Him.
Being in his studies, I realized that if I could sit here and listen to him for hours, I can’t wait to meet my Savior and sit at His feet just to here Him speak and be in His presence.
As much as I loved this man for drawing me closer to Christ, his wife was amazing too, he was just that. A man. Don’t take that in any derogitory way. The point is no man, no thing, and nothing can take the place of the real thing or a real relationship with Jesus.
Some people may really look forward to seeing what everyone is doing online but I hope that you are also seeking real contact. Real conversations. Ones that make you a better person today because of it. The ones that are truly heartfelt.
Although, I also look forward to “followers” on Facebook and on my blog page. I have one desire, that your heart will experience what it is like to see and feel Jesus in a real way. That you can see through all the other things and desire a relationship with Christ, who was fully God and became a man to seek and save the lost.
If you want to follow Him or seek a relationship with Christ and see the Hope for a future that only He can offer, seek Him and you will find Him.
The pastor that I was previously talking about always gave everyone who was seeking Christ or not a challenge. I am going to past this challenge on to you. Pick up a Bible. Read the book of Mark three times. Any of the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, would be great, you’ll find Mark, the second book in the New Testament, to be the shortest. Read it three times. Ask God to give you an open heart and mind. Read it, then ask yourself this one question, Would I follow THIS Jesus?
If you have a relationship with Jesus, you can also join this challenge to further get to know this man you call, Savior.
If you have taken me up on this challenge, please let me know. I would love to hear your responses. You can contact me by email if you have questions, would like to have a further conversation, or if you need a Bible to get started at youresewtrendy@gmail.com
Have a Great Day and Happy Reading
